Cast aluminum generally refers to aluminum castings manufactured by casting process, while die-cast aluminum refers to aluminum castings manufactured by high-pressure die casting. The difference between the two is mainly the casting process.
The casting process generally includes foundry casting, lost wax casting, gravity casting, low pressure casting, ceramic mold casting, plaster mold casting and other casting processes. The die-casting process is a kind of high-pressure die-casting, which is produced by a cold-chamber die-casting machine.
The cast aluminum grades used in these two processes are also different. China's national standard GB uses ZL to represent cast aluminum alloy grades, and YL to die-cast aluminum alloy grades. Generally, cast aluminum castings can be strengthened by heat treatment. Usually T6 heat treatment is used. However, because of the dense distribution of a large amount of gas inside, it is not suitable for T6 heat treatment. The reason is that the temperature of T6 heat treatment is very high, which is 15℃ lower than the melting point of aluminum alloy. At about 20℃, the gas in the die casting will expand and be forced out of the surface of the casting, which will cause dense dot-like protrusions on the surface of the die casting after the gas escapes. The appearance of the casting is severely damaged and cannot be used.
